Toyota Floor Mats a Potential Safety Hazard?

toyota floor mats could pose danger to drivers

Legal news for Massachusetts Product Liability lawyers—Toyota is warning consumers that floor mats may pose potential hazard.

Toyota advises consumers to take preventative measures and remove vehicle floor mats that could pose a safety hazard.

Boston, MA (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) – Toyota is looking at a nationwide recall of vehicle floor mats of close to 3.8 million vehicles due to a potential risk for accidents, announced the Boston Globe.

The floor mats could pose a possible death sentence if the mat became wedged near the gas pedal and accelerate the vehicle and could potentially cause a high speed crash. Toyota and the federal government are working together to caution Toyota and Lexus vehicle owners to remove the mats from the driver’s side of the vehicle as preventative measures against an avoidable possibility for an accident.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration www.nhsta.com is also strongly suggesting that all drivers of any Toyota vehicle remove the mats as soon as possible as a very necessary safety precaution. Close to 3.8 million Toyota-made vehicles are in need of a solution to the mat problem, which is why Toyota is on the verge of a nation-wide recall.

Toyota will be working toward a solution for the safety hazard, but until a permanent remedy is assumed, all owners are urged to completely remove the floor mat and not replace the area with any other sort of mat. Toyota has said that the mats under the driver’s feet pose a danger because they can become jammed under the accelerating pedal.

The models of the vehicles that would be affected by the recall would be mostly the makes and model vehicles of 2007 to 2010 with other exceptions such as the Camry 04-10, Avalon 04-09, Prius 05-10, Tacoma 07-10, Tundra 07-10, ES 350 and the IS 250 and IS 350, both 06-10.
