Texas product liability lawyer education-Thorndale, Texas beef brisket company recalls beef after safety inspectors found listeria contamination during testing.

Thorndale, TX–Lone Star Brisket Company has participated in a voluntary recall of about 207 lbs. of smoked beef brisket products. Lone Star is a firm based out of Thorndale, Texas. The federal recall was issued after discovering the items may have been contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, which can cause listeriosis, a fatal bacterial infection. Babies, the elderly, and people with poor immune systems are usually the ones susceptible to listeriosis. Individuals in good health can expect symptoms such as diarrhea, convulsions, loss of balance, constipation, vomiting, stomach cramps, stiff neck, and fever. Safety regulators with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) www.fsis.usda.gov, an agency under the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) www.usda.gov, announced the recall on August 24, 2009.

The following items are under recall:

- 50 lb. case, labeled with a “222A” code, consisting of about 20 2-lb. beef briskets made on August 11, 2009

The recalled beef items were sent to New Mexico and Oklahoma Department of Defense Commissaries. The microbiological sampling program at FSIS discovered the possible contamination. No illnesses related to the recalled beef products have been reported. Consumers should cease consumption of the recalled products. Consult a physician immediately if you think you, or someone you know, has been infected. Questions regarding the recall can be directed to the Texas firm’s general manager at 512-898-5423. People injured by the consumption of recalled items may be entitled to compensation for damages. Consumers with questions regarding food safety can call the USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline at 1-888-674-6854.
