Florida medical malpractice lawyers alerts-The family of a teen who died from malignant hyperthermia filed a lawsuit against the surgeon and anesthesiologist.

West Palm Beach, FL—The family of a deceased teenager who died after corrective breast surgery filed a lawsuit against her plastic surgeon and the anesthesiologist. The lawsuit accuses the surgeon and anesthesiologist of failing to recognize and treat a rare medical condition the teen suffered from. The medical malpractice lawsuit was filed on Tuesday, September 22, 2009 in Palm Beach County, as reported by WPBF.

The teenager, Stephanie Kuleba, a co-captain on West Boca High School’s cheerleading team, underwent surgery to correct asymmetrical breasts and inverted areola. The Boca Raton teen died after having the surgery in 2008. An autopsy conducted on the teen revealed Kuleba died of malignant hyperthermia, a rare medical condition. According to Wikipedia http://www.wikipedia.org malignant hyperthermia is a rare life-threatening condition, which causes adverse reactions from exposure to certain drugs used for general anesthesia. Kuelba reportedly suffered cardiac arrest due to the severe reaction to anesthesia during the outpatient surgery. The lawsuit accuses Kuleba’s plastic surgeon, Steven Schuster, and her anesthesiologist, Peter Warheit, of failing to recognize the malignant hyperthermia fast enough, and neglected to properly administer drugs to counter act the rare medical condition. The medical malpractice lawsuit is seeking an unspecified amount in damages.
