Long Island, New York (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) — On Sunday, November 30th, a Long Island man drowned during a father-son fishing trip off Montauk.

Marty L. McMillan, 51, was heaving the anchor of his fishing vessel when the rope of the anchor snared his leg, pulling him into the water.

His son, Cody McMillan immediately shot flares and put out a Mayday radio call to the Coast Guard. A fellow fisherman, Capt. John DeMaio, who was nearby, responded to the call and pulled Mr. McMillan’s body out of the water. McMillan was pronounced dead at South Hampton hospital.

The Coast Guard towed Mr. McMillan’s boat, Xiao Mu Ji, back to shore. Two friends of his son, Cody McMillan, were also onboard.

Marty McMillan was not wearing a life jacket.
