Window Washer Killed in Fall

On Tuesday, Robert Domaszowec, 49, a window washer with over 20 years of experience, died when he fell 12 stories while cleaning a building in Greenwich Village.

Mr. Domaszowec, an independent contractor, was reportedly wearing a harness when its safety hooks failed him. Officials are still investigating the reason behind the failure of the hooks.

The tragedy of Mr. Domaszowec is the latest in a series of fatal accidents, involving window washers, in the City.

Just hours before Mr. Domaszowec’s death, emergency services rescued two other window washers, in Times Square, when their platform became stuck while working on a skyscraper.

Earlier this month, two cousins, both window washers, were killed on the job in downtown, Manhattan when their cherry picker toppled over on its side.

Last December, two window washers, brothers, fell 47 stories when their scaffolding collapsed, killing one and badly injuring the other. Two companies were fined for violating safety regulations in that case. Litigation is pending in that matter.
